Frequently Asked Questions

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy (OT) is a regulated health profession with a broad scope of practice. We take a holistic treatment approach, considering all aspects of a person, their environment and occupations. An occupation is anything that occupies your time.  These are things you want or need to do to care for yourself (self-care), keep busy (productivity), and have fun (leisure). We believe occupation impacts health and well-being, helps bring structure and meaning to our lives, and are a unique experience for each person.

How do I know if OT is right for me?

A free consultation is the best way to meet and discuss whether OT services would be a fit for your needs. You're welcome to schedule an appointment through the online booking system or email elissa@seasonsofchangetherapy.com.

Is OT covered by insurance?

Many insurance plans cover occupational therapy services. It's recommended that you ask your insurance provider if OT is covered. If it's not covered under your plan, ask me about how we can advocate for OT coverage for you.

Can OTs practice psychotherapy?

Yes! OTs are one of six regulatory colleges permitted to practice the controlled act of psychotherapy in Ontario. We engage in continuing education and supervision to ensure competency in psychotherapeutic interventions.

Where will the appointment take place?

You can find me at Encompass Health & Wellness for in person or virtual sessions on Mondays. Visit their website to book and get a glimpse of the clinic.

I am also available to connect virtually via a secure video chat (Jane App). Please email for availability throughout the week.

If you're seeking support during the first year postpartum, I am available to come to your home. This allows me to make suggestions to your home setup and practice skills in the comfort of your own space.

What will a session look like?

Prior to meeting, I will ask you to fill out an intake form. During our first session, we will review that form and complete any other relevant assessments or screenings. If you're struggling with a particular activity, I may ask you to perform it for me so that I can better understand challenges and make suggestions. After our first meeting, we will decide what kind of support you would like moving forward and create a plan.
